Q20.
Which of the following is/are correct?
1. Rational energy pricing is not
recommended since energy has to be supplied at a subsidized cost to the
majority of India.
2. Energy prices should be
independent of global price levels and the balance cost should be afforded by
the Government.
A) Only 1
Rational
energy pricing is critical for both effective demand management and a healthy
supply
response. It is relevant for demand management, because energy users have no
incentive
to economize if energy is under‐priced. It is also relevant for expansion of domestic supply, because under‐pricing of energy
imposes a large burden on the energy producers reducing
the resources that should accrue to them for financing new investments in these
areas. The poor will need subsidy, which should be strictly targeted, but
energy prices in general cannot be delinked from global price levels,
particularly in a situation where import dependence is increasing.

on imported oil.
Options:
A) Only 1
A) Only 1
B) Only 2
C) Both 1 & 2
D) Neither 1 or 2
Answer: B
Because the
ethanol molecule contains oxygen, it allows the engine to more completely
combust the fuel, resulting in fewer emissions, hence it is a clean fuel. Since
ethanol is produced from plants that harness the power of the sun, ethanol is
also considered a renewable fuel. As part of the focus on clean fuel
approach, ethanol blending of 5 per cent in petrol was initiated during
Eleventh Plan and currently about 3–5 per cent of ethanol is blended in petrol.
Currently they are considering increasing the percentage of ethanol to 10%. The second statement is true.

very informative & useful post.. I have a query.. does it really matter that being from an engineering background I may face any problem in IAS general study prelims. Also, I'm being referred for an online course @ http://www.wiziq.com/course/119-ias-general-studies-prelimnary-course.. do online courses help & are better than their offline counterparts?
ReplyDeleteHi Srishti,
ReplyDeleteEngineering background is not at all a problem in GS prelims. In fact, CSAT paper 2 you have quant, Reading Comprehension and stuff which is similar to CAT but at a reasonable level of questions. Coming to Paper 1, it is all about current affairs and the concepts behind them. It is not about your background. All that matters is how consistent and persistent you are about your preparation. Read, read and read some more about the current news and the concepts. Regarding online courses, wiziq is a good site. Also, the program I found helpful was the email course offered in www.gktoday.in. And the coaching centers are helpful for the Mains preparation. Hope this is helpful to you. All the best. :)
